This piece is a highly decorative "fusion" sculpture that brings together several distinct Mesoamerican deities and symbols into one vertical composition. Contemporary sculpture, hand-carved cedar wooden piece that serve as a vibrant fusion of Mexica (Aztec) and Maya iconography, characteristic of modern Mexican folk art. The Feathered Serpent (Quetzalcoatl / Kukulkan): The large, blue-scaled snake with an open maw dominates the upper half. It represents the union of the earth (snake) and the sky (feathers). The "Burden of Time" Centerpiece: The inner circular relief shows a human figure carrying a heavy load on its back. In Maya art, this specifically represents a "Year Bearer," a deity or figure that carries the weight of a time period (like a day or year) through the cosmos. The Dual Mask: The base features a face split vertically. One side is a living warrior or deity, and the other is a skull, representing the cyclical nature of life and death common in Mesoamerican philosophy.
The Sun Stone (Aztec Calendar): The top disk is a reproduction of the famous Aztec Sun Stone. At its center is the face of the sun god, Tonatiuh (identifiable by his outstretched tongue, often depicted as a flint knife for sacrifice).

The Jaguar Warrior/God Mask: The central face is encased in the jaws of a Jaguar, a creature that symbolizes power, the night, and the underworld in both Maya and Aztec cultures. Historically, high-ranking "Jaguar Warriors" would wear such pelts and masks to embody the animal's strength.

Traditional Craftsmanship: The use of unpainted wood highlights the intricate relief carving, likely produced in workshops in regions like the Yucatan or Oaxaca where these traditions are passed down through generations.
